On Saturday 1 December, people all over the world will wear a red ribbon with pride as part of World AIDS Day, to remember all of the lives so sadly lost to the virus. We will be standing by the side of Terrence Higgins Trust, encouraging people to play their part in helping us reach zero HIV stigma and zero HIV transmission here in the UK.
What is HIV?
HIV stands for ‘Human Immunodeficiency Virus.’ Only identified in the early 80s, this virus weakens a person’s immune system thus impacting their ability to fight off diseases. Modern treatment means that someone living with HIV who is on effective treatment cannot pass on the virus, and will enjoy a healthy life with a normal life expectancy.
Terrence Higgins Trust
At the forefront of fight against HIV are Terrence Higgins Trust. Focused on improving the nation’s sexual health, they are the largest voluntary sector provider of HIV and sexual health services in the UK.
How Argos supports World Aids Day
We have three main aims: to fundraise for Terrence Higgins Trust, to raise the profile of the Proud At Argos LGBTA Network and encourage Yammer participation; and to provide support to any colleagues who approach us as a result of our events. This year we will be selling red ribbons in Argos stores and our store support centres to fundraise for Terrence Higgins Trust. Furthermore, our Avebury and Holborn offices will be hosting a speaker from Positive Voices.
