Celebrating Women Engineers: Hunter Douglas UK’s Stars on INWED 2024

Category: Gender (Equality & Identity)

Gender Focus

Every year on 23 June, the global community celebrate International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), a day dedicated to recognising the incredible contributions of women in the engineering field and inspiring the next generation of female engineers.

At Hunter Douglas Group UK, we’re proud of the talented women who play a pivotal role in our Engineering and Technical teams. Their dedication, knowledge, and passion drive our company forward and inspire us all.

In honour of INWED, we are thrilled to spotlight two of our colleagues: Emma Beresford, our Quality Technician and Katie Tang, our Production Engineer. Their stories exemplify the diverse paths and impactful contributions of women in engineering within our company.

Emma and Katie

Emma Beresford, Quality Technician

"Having worked in customer services in Arena for 30 years, I needed a change. I have always been interested in how things work, so when an opportunity came up for a Quality Technician, which sounded fascinating and totally different from what I had been doing, I went for it. I have now been in my current role for seven years, and the Quality and Technical team have always been so helpful in furthering my knowledge of our products and advising solutions to problems. I have never had any issues being a woman working in engineering and would recommend it highly."

Katie Tang, Production Engineer

"I have been with the company for about three years. Before joining, I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham. From a young age, I have been fascinated by science and mathematics. Working in a role that aligns with my interests makes each day engaging and fulfilling. As a woman in Production Engineering at Hunter Douglas UK, I find my role extremely rewarding. I have the opportunity to optimise manufacturing processes and contribute to new product launches. The support and collaboration within our team are fantastic, making it a great environment to be part of."

Inspiring the Future
According to the latest March 2023 workforce statistics for the UK, women make up 26% of the total workforce of Core-STEM employees. This shows a small but positive increase in the percentage of women in the Core-STEM workforce across most sectors (Source).
