So far, she has spent time on a Rasta farm in Jamaica, explored Scandinavia, crossed the border from Slovakia into war-torn Ukraine, travelled to France for two months by train, launched a book in Lisbon, and is just back from two weeks in the Paris red light district.
As Siobhan’s son flew the nest she initially felt bereft. But then she had a lightbulb moment, realising that it could be an incredible opportunity for her to fly free too. Siobhan has realised that midlife doesn’t have to be all menopausal misery, and how travelling the world with all her worldly goods in a suitcase made her feel healthier and happier than ever before.
When Siobhan first contemplated getting rid of her home and virtually all her worldly goods she broke out into a cold sweat. But now, as she’s whittled all her worldly goods down to one suitcase full, she’s never felt lighter or freer. It has its moments though. She has experienced a few bumps along the way. There was the day she broke one of her sole pair of shoes in the middle of a forest in Ukraine, the challenge of having to carry a suitcase up 88 steps in the Paris Metro – and yes, she was counting to try and stop from falling! – and she’s also learned how to survive with just seven pairs of knickers, and the incredible freedom that comes from lightening your load.
She’s incredibly proud of how she has combined a life of travel with her career as an author and a coach.
She is charting her travels on her weekly Substack newsletter, WONDERSTRUCK, at: siobhancurham.substack.com
