Job summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. As such using data to aid understanding of our workforce is vital.

39 Signal Regiment Headquarters is based at the Army Reserve Centre in Horfield, Bristol. The Unit consists of 4 units based in Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, and Windsor. We are inclusive and dedicated, working to provide excellent fleet reliability and readiness to our unit personnel.

We are looking for a friendly, well-organised, adaptable HGV Vehicle Mechanic to join our encouraging and welcoming team of dedicated military reserve and regular soldiers, and civil servants at our Army Reserve Centre. The position will be based at the Bath ARC.

Job description

Regular visits to other units within area of responsibility, to conduct servicing, maintenance, mechanical, structural and electrical repairs on all Regimental equipment and vehicles in accordance with current regulations and legislation. Conduct level 1 & 2 Maintenance, servicing and inspections for all relevant equipment platforms as per the Unit Equipment Care
  • Directive (UECD) and Engineering Management System (EMS) and any other pertinent policies.

To diagnose faults on the full range of unit equipment so that a timely repair programme can be implemented in a cost-effective manner.

Forecast Level 1 & 2 Maintenance in line with Battalion/Company priorities.

Assist in the development of local policy documents (EMS, UECD) when required by the ES Commander. Also support Senior managers with the briefing of technical issues to the Chain of Command. Provide technical support and advice to the ES Commander, internal subunits, contractors and senior officers when required.

Work as part of the management team with input to planning and output required. Monitor production against plan. Conduct daily and weekly monitoring of forecast maintenance. Highlight risks to achieving planned output.

Liaise with outside agencies such as Delivery Teams to gain clarification on technical issues.

To maintain Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions Management Information Systems (JAMES MIS) to accurately programme and record work completed, equipment usage and ES materiel utilisation.

Maintain issued personal tools and equipment and PPE.

Assist with the management of the Company Equipment Table (ET) and Special Tools and Test Equipment (STTE).

Manage the COSHH locker by supervising the substances within them.

Monitor the Lifting and Recovery Equipment (LRE) within the Workshop, identify and quarantine out of date equipment by way of before and after use checks.

To ensure all vehicle and equipment related documentation is completed correctly, kept up to date and presented for audit as necessary.

To work to and apply Safety Health Environment and Fire (SHEF) standards and also contribute to Regimental quarterly SHEF and Equipment care meetings

Person specification

To safeguard all tools issued to them including all Special Tools and Test equipment within the workshop and to operate machinery and power tools where necessary and in accordance with instructions.

Carry out Mobile Support Team and recovery callout duties to dependant units as directed by the Equipment Support Warrant Officer.

Qualifications Essential
  • NVQ Level 3 in Motor Mechanics or recognised apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Technology

Or

Former Army/Royal Marine VM Class One

Or

MOD (RAF) Vehicle Inspector Q-GM (1) V-Insp
  • Must hold a C+E licence

The successful candidate would be located at Bath Army Reserve Centre.
