This is an exciting opportunity for a solicitor with experience supporting both the delivery of financial services products but also technology transactional experience, to support and lead strategic digital and technology new business initiatives.

Legal is at the heart of digital disruption and the new International Consumer Business (ICB), the business responsible for building Chase UK.

As a Strategic Growth, Marketing & Data Lawyer - Vice President in ICB Legal team, you will support the team end to end across all areas of product development and commercial contracting, including agreements with third party suppliers in the UK and globally.

You will provide primary legal support and advise senior stakeholders across all legal issues arising out of a strategic new business initiative and will be a key enabler of its success, helping to establish its foundations, including governance arrangements, negotiating a wide range of strategic transactions and driving progress forwards.

You will handle the structuring, drafting, negotiation and analysis of agreements for the acquisition and consumption of technology products and services, including but not limited to partnerships, Joint Ventures, reseller agreements, SaaS agreements, platform agreements, connectivity, API, and cloud services contracts.

You will work closely with ICB senior stakeholders, colleagues in Sourcing/Procurement and Third-Party Oversight, ICB Technology, Technology Controls, Bank Regulations, Human Resources, Privacy and IP Legal.

Job responsibilities
  • Structure, draft and negotiate agreements and relationships with vendors, partners, customers and other third parties related to technology, including but not limited to partnerships, Joint Ventures, reseller agreements, SaaS agreements, platform agreements, connectivity, API, and cloud services contracts
  • Advise business and stakeholders on legal risk in connection with the development of new products and services, helping to guide innovation across a range of client bases and products, in particular on legal risk arising from digitalisation, data, new technologies and consumer protection. This will include attendance in committees and forums where decisions related to the products and projects will be approved
  • Provide timely and pragmatic general corporate, transactional and commercial legal support relevant to a new venture
  • Source and coordinate legal advice across legal functions outside of the ICB
  • Engage and instruct outside counsel when appropriate
  • Provide support on other special projects
  • Perform legal research across a variety of issues, laws and jurisdictions

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • UK qualified lawyer with extensive line of business and transactional experience drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, both supplier and customer facing, including complex global technology agreements, e.g., partnerships, reseller, software licensing/support, SaaS, PaaS, outsourcing, data and cloud agreements
  • Familiarity with global regulatory issues relevant to the use of technology in financial services, including cloud, outsourcing and third-party risk management
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, technology controls, information security, data privacy and protection
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and legal research skills
  • Global mindset and cross-border experience (especially UK, EU and US)
  • Proven ability to independently identify issues, analyse problems and provide viable solutions
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management, including c-suite senior executives
  • Ability to work under accurately under pressure, handle deadlines, and manage multiple tasks in a high performance environment

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Experience in-house with a financial institution, large technology organisation or FinTech
