We are the world's largest university press. We have both a worldwide reach and a personal understanding of local needs, partnering on the ground to adapt publications and resources to meet the individual needs of communities, societies, and countries. We partner with researchers, educators, and technology partners to stay ahead of the changing ways people around the world are accessing and sharing knowledge. With a presence in more than 50 countries and millions of customers around the world, an idea launched at OUP can have global impact.

About the Role

This role is in Oxford Languages, a department within Academic division that is focused on language content, data, and technology. The primary purpose is to lead a cross-functional innovation team focused on launching new digital B2B products that deliver growth by capitalizing on opportunities created by developments in language technology and artificial intelligence. Key responsibilities in this role will include:
  • Devise and communicate a clear, customer-focused strategy that aligns priorities across the portfolio and drives active and innovative product roadmaps that solve validated user problems
  • Apply and set a standard for effective product management throughout the entire product lifecycle, from strategic planning, to bringing new products to market, leading on continuous improvement, and overseeing product retirement
  • Develop compelling business cases for significant initiatives that are aligned to department goals and capable of delivering long-term commercial success.
  • Monitor the market and competitive landscape seeking insight into buyer and user problems in order to inform product development and contribute to positioning and marketing strategies
  • Engage actively with Sales and Marketing colleagues to ensure that products are clearly positioned, propositions well understood and differentiated, and market opportunities identified
  • Provide empathetic leadership as a line manager for your product team and as a senior colleague within your cross-functional team

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

Knowledge and experience required:

  • Track record of delivering business growth
  • Demonstrated mastery of product development methodologies and best practice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with high attention to detail
  • Line management experience (preferred)
  • Prior experience working with language technologies or artificial intelligence (preferred)
